What is the average cost for website production?

Hey, everyone! People often ask me: How much does it cost to build a website?”” target=”_blank”>”How much does it cost to build a website?” That’s actually a tricky question. The trickiness about it is that there’s a lot of factors that influence the overall cost of the website production in the end. But we’ll still try to answer.

Most probably you’re looking to build a website which is similarly to the websites that 90% of the Internet consist of. In this case, the website production will not cost you much. We’re probably talking about the amount of around $200 of initial cost and under $100 of the maintenance cost each year.

What does the initial stage of website building include? What payment options do I have?

Now, the initial stage of setting up a website consists of basically the first important question – this is the technological platform that your website will be built with.

There are two options. First option is a one-time payment, which means that you actually download the product from the vendor, and you acquire it on a lifetime license basis. And in this case, it will cost you about $55 to $150. That’s a one-time payment. You know you renew anything, and it’s yours forever.

And then there’s another option, called SaaS (stands for Software as a Service). And in this case, you require a website template, the company hosts it for you, and you renew the license on a regular basis: either on a monthly basis or a yearly basis. In this case, it will cost you around $120 to $140 each year. You may pay monthly, that will be a bit more expensive, but the important question, the important thing here is that you have to renew the license each year.

What else do I need to setup a website based on a template and put it online?

Then, if you decide to go for the downloadable product which is a one-time payment, you’ll need a web hosting and an installation service. Web hosting is basically where you put the template files and this is how it becomes available for other people to visit. For most websites the regular shared hosting will do just fine, will be more than enough. We won’t dig too deeply into the web hosting issues, but the regular shared hosting will cost you around $50 to $80 each year. You may pay for several years upfront. In this case it will be slightly cheaper, but still this is the amount that you should be looking up for.

And then there’s the third component which is the website installation. It can be provided either by a website template vendor or by freelancers on some platforms like Odesk, Elance or etc. The website installation normally costs around $50 and normally it’s done within several hours after you actually complete the payment. But the good thing about website installation is that you can do it yourself. It will take you maybe a bit more time than it will take the professional to complete, but still the templates these days are not hard to install, and that’s actually real. You can do it yourself.

How much does it cost to maintain a website?

And then the maintenance cost that you have to pay each year to make sure that your website stays online. It consists of two basic components that you cannot exist without. This is the web hosting renewal which again is $50 to $80 a year. And there’s the domain name renewal which is around $10 a year. So you can see the maintenance cost is under $100 every year. And that’s not a lot, especially for a business as an investment. So creating a website is no longer ever-expensive issue.
