How to enable user registration?

You can allow your website users to register on your website and allow them writing articles on it. User registration is disabled by default. To enable it you need to perform a few simple steps:

  1. Login to your WordPress backend and navigate to the Settings > General section.

  2. Locate Membership section at the bottom of the page.

  3. Check Anyone can register option to allow user registration on your website.

  4. Now you can select user registration role from the New User Default Role field. That is the role your registered users will be assigned to.

    All the users have roles:

    • Super Admin

    • Administrator

    • Author

    • Editor

    • Subscriber

    • Contributor

You can check our video tutorial on how to manage user roles to get more info about user roles.

Note! We don’t recommend using Administrator role for registered users for security issue.

How to add a registration form to the website?

Registration is enabled. You can proceed to the next step – add a place on your website where site visitors could register. There are a few possible ways to do that:

  1. Using the Meta Widget

The easiest way is adding Meta Widget to your website header or sidebar. To do that perform the next few simple steps:

    • Open Appearance > Widgets page in your back-end.

    • Drag and Drop Meta widget to one of the positions available.

  2. Adding a Custom login page

The previous method provides access to default WordPress admin panel page.

In case you want your registration/login page look different do the following changes:

    1. Navigate to Plugins > Add New section in your backed.

    2. Enter Profile Builder to the search field. Click Install Now button to install the plugin and activate it after installation.

    3. The plugin is installed now you can set up user registration. Open Profile Builder > Manage Fields page in your admin panel to customize your registration page. Here you can add/remove or change registration fields.

To add custom fields you need to update the plugin to PRO version.

    4. We can add a form to our registration page now. To add a page navigate to Pages > All Pages section in your admin page. Click ‘Add new’ to add a new page. Use this shortcode on the pages you want the forms to be displayed [wppb-register].

You can add more forms to your pages. For example, login form could be added using [wppb-register] shortcode. More info about the plugin you can find on the official plugin page.

    5. Don’t forget to update page to save the changes.

Check your site to see the registration form. Site visitors can register on your site now.
