How to Automatically Post to Facebook From WordPress

Facebook is a great user base that can be used as a traffic source for your website. You can use it to share your posts on Facebook, there are a great number of ways to do that. We are going to provide you with a few of them.

Post to Facebook from WordPress using IFTTT

IFTTT (‘If This Then That’) is an online tool which is used to post WordPress posts on Facebook.

This tool is used to create applets. These applets allow you to connect two online accounts. You can make IFTTT post your new WordPress posts to your Facebook account. To do that perform a few next simple steps:

  1. Register and login into your IFTTT account.

  2. Click your username in the left top corner and select New Applet option.

  3. You will be redirected to the IFTTT wizard page. Click +this to start the process.

  4. Now you are proceeded to the services step. Enter WordPress search field and click on WordPress icon.

  5. Click Connect button to proceed to the next step.

  6. Enter your website login details to popup you will get next. Click the Connect button to continue.

  7. Next, you can choose trigger. You can select option that allows you to publish a post when it’s added, or when a post is assigned to specific category or tag. Click on Any boxoption.

  8. Click on +that link on the next screen.

  9. Select a service which is used to perform automatic posting.

  10. We will search for and select Facebook.

  11. And click on Connect button on the next screen.

  12. Enter your Facebook details to popup window you see next.

  13. You will get 3 options:

    • Create a status message. This section will create a new plain text message on Facebook.

    • Create a link post. It will create a new post link on Facebook.

    • Upload a photo from URL. This section will upload a new photo from the link to a specific album on Facebook you will specify.

    We recommend that you select Create a link post option.

  14. Now you can change how your post will look like on Facebook. After adding your post link IFTTT tool will fetch post details: title, image and description. Save the changes.

Finished! Facebook will post your WordPress website messages automatically now. But what if you don’t want to use this tool for some reason? Read further to get more variants.

What is Buffer? How to post to Facebook using this tool?

Buffer is online tool that allows you to posts on Facebook according to selected schedule. You can decide when your post is added to Facebook.

  1. First you need to visit official Buffer website. Register and sign up to your account. We recommend that you login using your Facebook account. You can check official Buffer documenation page for more information on how to connect to Facebook.

  2. To connect Buffer to your website you can use WordPress to Buffer plugin.

    • Open Plugins > Add New page in your WordPress admin panel.

    • Enter WordPress to Buffer to the search field. Install and activate plugin.

  3. Navigate to WP to Buffer > Settings page in your backend.

  4. To allow this Plugin to post updates to your Buffer account, please authorize it by clicking the Authorize plugin button.

  5. Click Allow access button on the next screen to enable access for your Buffer account.

  6. Ready? Now you can configure how you want your posts to be shared. You can do that under the Post and Page tabs on the plugin page.

WordPress has many plugins that allow you to connect your website to the Facebook page. We will show you how to use AccessPress Facebook Auto Post plugin for this purpose.

The main advantage of this method is that you can post posts of certain tags and categories.

  1. Download a plugin from official AccessPress Facebook Auto Post page and install it under Plugins > Add New page in your admin panel.

  2. Activate a plugin after the installation and open AccessPress Facebook Auto Post to configure plugin settings.

  3. To enable auto posting check Auto Publish option.

  4. The next step is Facebook ID and secret keys:

    • Visit Facebook Developers and click on Add New Application button in top right corner.

    • A popup will appear. Enter your app title, email and your website URL. And click App ID button.

    • App is ready! Click on Settings > Basic page on your App dashboard. Copy your App ID and secret key.

  5. Return to the plugin’s settings page, where you need to enter details you copied. Paste it corresponding fields on AccessPress Facebook Auto Post page and click Authorize button.

  6. Now, you need to get your Facebook user ID. The best way to do that is to use one of online tool available. You can use this online tool.

  7. Enter this ID to Facebook user ID on the plugin page.

  8. Change Facebook posting settings under the Post Settings section on your plugin page. You can decide which post types and categories are published there.

  9. Don’t forget to save changes by clicking Save Settings button at the bottom of the page.

  10. Ready! Your posts will be shared on Facebook automatically now.
