How to install WordPress theme Sample data (SQL import with GoDaddy)
March 9, 2011
ATTENTION: Importing the SQL file to your database will overwrite your existing content and website settings. DO NOT import the SQL file if you want to keep the existing content
NOTE: ALWAYS backup your database before performing any modifications
This tutorial will show you how to import the WordPress theme sample data.
The sample data is stored in the SQL file, it’s located in the template sources folder. The SQL file should be imported directly into your WordPress database.
Note: The SQL file will replace all your WordPress posts, pages etc with the sample content. So it’s not recommended to use the SQL import if you have a working blog and you don;t want to lose the data.
1. Open GoDaddy hosting control panel and go to Databases tab. There click MySQL icon.
2. Select your WordPress database and click the Manage via PhpMyAdmin
3. In the PhpMyAdmin tool select your database from the left column.
Note: There is a system database information_chema, do not edit it or perform any actions with it.
4. In the top menu click Import.
5. Now open the template package and check the dump_readme.txt file (step 4). It says that you need to replace the “your_website_URL_here” phrase with your website URL in the SQL file.
6. Open the SQL file from the template sources folder with your HTML editor (notepad, Dreamweaver, Expression Web etc.)
7. Use the Find&Replace tool (CTRL+F) and replace all instances of “your_website_URL_here” with your URL. Save the file.
8. Now you can import the SQL file. Go back to PhpMyAdmin tool, browse for the SQL file and click Go.
Thats all, you’ve successfully imported the WordPress theme sample data.
