Hello, this tutorial will show you where to check database details and where you can change it in Joomla 3.x.

Joomla 3.x. How to check database details in the admin panel

  1. In order to check your database details, go to your Joomla admin panel, navigate to Site -> Global Configuration -> Server Tab and here you can check database details:

    screen1_where_check_change_database_details

Notice! You cannot change database details (Database type, name, username and prefix) in Joomla admin panel. If you do it, the site will go down.

  2. If you need to change database details, you can do it in your MySQL databases section of your hosting control panel.

Here you can set a new password.

Go to your MySQL databases section of your hosting control panel and check your database name:

    screen2_where_check_change_database_details

  3. There you will have an opportunity to set a new password.

Click set new password and enter new password for your database.

    Save changes:

    screen3_where_change_check_database_details

  4. After these changes you need to reset password in configuration.php file. That is the file where all database details are written. This file is located in your website Joomla root folder.

If you do not change the password in configuration.php file, you will get en “Error establishing database connection”:

    screen4_where_change_check_database_details

  5. Open configuration.php file, check the database password and set the new one that you have put in your MySQL database:

    screen5_where_check_change_database_details

Check your website, it works in a proper way.
