Our Support team is ready to present you a new tutorial that shows how to deal with “Warning. Failed to move file!” message in Joomla.

Joomla 3.x. Warning: Failed to move file!
  1. You can see the “Warning: Failed to move file!” error message trying to install the template or some extension through the Joomla admin panel. You can also see “Failed to create site directory” message.

  2. This error is caused by the incorrect CHMOD permissions set for some folders.

  3. To resolve this issue, you will need to do the following:

    1. Navigate to System > System Information > Directory Permissions in your Joomla admin panel:

      joomla_warning_failed_to_move_file_1
    2. There you can see the list of directories that are not writable, they should have write permissions assigned:

      joomla_warning_failed_to_move_file_2
    3. Open your Joomla installation using the hosting file manager or via FTP, locate the needed folder:

      joomla_warning_failed_to_move_file_3
    4. Change the specified folders permissions to 755 or 777 (depends on your server settings), you can refer to this guide for more information:

      joomla_warning_failed_to_move_file_4
    5. When all folders are marked as writable, you will be able to install any extension through the admin panel.
