This tutorial shows how to display featured articles in Joomla 3.x.

First, you need to mark some articles in your site as Featured.

1. To do this, go to Content -> Articles Manager. There is a list of all your articles. You will see a star next to each article. To mark an article as Featured, simply press the star next to it. It will turn yellow, indicating that you’ve marked this article as featured:

   

2. In order to display featured articles on a page, you have to create the Featured Articles menu type in Joomla 3.x.

3. Go to Menus -> Main Menu(default main menu) -> Add New Menu Item:

   

4. Next, we should select the menu type by pressing the Select button next to the Menu Item Type label. Expand the Articles section and select the Featured Articles option:

   

5. Finally, press the Save button in the top left corner of this page.

Now check your site and you will see the new menu item displaying the featured articles.
