Joomla/VirtueMart Troubleshooter. Email notifications do not work.
February 5, 2015
Our Support team is ready to present a new tutorial that will show you how to diagnose the issue when email notifications do not work in your Joomla/VirtueMart. One click on the button and the video will smoothly take you through this step by step.
At first, please verify with your hosting provider what setting are better for your hosting package and sending email messages/notifications from online forms (PHP Mail, Sendmail, SMTP):
PHP Mail is the script for sending email messages. It should be enabled by hosting provider.
Sendmail is the most popular UNIX-based implementation of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) for transmitting e-mail. When a sendmail server receives e-mail, it attempts to deliver the mail to the intended recipient immediately and, if the recipient is not present, it queues messages for later delivery.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an Internet standard for electronic mail (e-mail) transmission. Although electronic mail servers and other mail transfer agents use SMTP to send and receive mail messages, user-level client mail applications typically use SMTP only for sending messages to a mail server for relaying. For receiving messages, client applications usually use either POP3 or IMAP.
In order to manage email settings, please open your admin panel and navigate to System -> Global Configuration -> Server. In "Mail Settings" section you ought to verify parameters that have been chosen:
At first, verify if the option "Send Mail" has been enabled.
- Select PHP Mail in Mailer drop down field (please contact your hosting provider in order to verify if you can use PHP Mail for online forms) and add "From email" and "From Name" parameters:
If you are unable to use PHP Mail or would like to use SendMail/SMTP options, please select it in "Mailer" field. You should also contact your hosting provider in order to verify which option is better for your hosting package.
- If you select "Sendmail", please verify if your domain has been added to Sendmail file and SendMail Path (contact your hosting provider):
- For "SMTP" verify if you ought to use SMTP Authentication and also select protocol if you will use Secure SMTP, SMTP Port (25 is port by default), SMTP Username and password, SMTP host (all those parameters you ought to verify with your hosting provider):
Click "Save". Refresh your site and send new notification.
