WordPress. How to add Google AdSense

Google AdSense is one of the popular ways to monetize your site. First of all sign up for a Google AdSense account. If you already have Gmail account, use it to log in. Here you would get the script for the ad. The following steps should be performed to achieve this:

  1. Click ‘My Adds’ on top:

  2. Next, click ‘+New ad unit’ button to create an Ad. This brings you to a new add page with ad settings. Here select style, size and type of Ad to appear in the site:

    • Title: type the name of ad. This is for internal use, customers won’t see it;

    • Ad Size: select wanted size of the ad; it is better to use recommended ones among the list of offered items;

    • Ad Type: choose if you want to display just text, just ad, or both;

    • Text Ad style: controls how the ad will look on your site. You can use default presets (and modify them), or create your own style;

    • Custom channels: lets you group ads units. Using it is optional;

    • Backup ads: here you can choose preferable ads when they are available:

  3. Click ‘Save and get code’ button. You will see the Ad script. Copy the one and paste it to Notepad. The code is required for the further setup.

  4. Next, you have to place the ad within your site. Open WordPress dashboard and navigate to Appearance> Widgets section in there. Select Text widget and place it to the required widget area. Put the script from Google AdSense into the content of the Text widget and save changes:

Open the site to check the results. Google AdSense shows up in the selected widget area now.

Note: it might take some time before the Google AdSense appears in the site.
