  1. Make sure that your WordPress engine is updated to the latest stable version:

  2. Install a Captcha plugin. Comprehensive instruction on how to install this plugin can be found here:

  3. WordPress comes with a pre-installed antispam solution – Akismet. In order to use Akismet, you should have a WordPress API key. To receive a WordPress API key, you should register on the official WordPress website:

To enable Akismet for your blog, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to your WordPress admin area > Plugins > Installed Plugins.

  2. Click Activate. Navigate to plugin settings:

  3. Enter your WordPress API key.

  4. Click Use This Key button.

  5. If you have entered a correct API key, it will be verified.

  6. From now on your blog will be protected from spam by Akismet. You will be able to check the comments in your blog for spam, as well as manually mark comments as spam from the blog Dashboard -> Comments.
