Working with NextGen Gallery Plugin

The following tutorial will teach you how to work with NextGen Gallery plugin for WordPress. NextGEN Gallery is a full integrated Image Gallery plugin for WordPress with a slideshow option.This plugin has a user-friendly administration options available from the WordPress admin panel. You can learn more about the plugin featured here.

Installation

1. Open WordPress admin panel

2. Go to Plugins>Add new

3. In the search term field type NextGen Gallery

4. In the appeared list select NextGen Gallery and click Install Now

5. When the installation is complete click Activate Plugin

If everything has been installed correctly you’ll see the NextGen Gallery menus in the admin panel left column

Add New Gallery/Upload images

1. Open WordPress admin panel

2. Go to Gallery>Add Gallery/Image

3. Type the gallery name and click Add Gallery

4. Now go to your WordPress installation directory and open wp-content folder.

5. Add new folder called gallery

6. Open wp-content/gallery folder and create new folder that has the same name as your newly created gallery.

As we created sample gallery we need to have the directory wp-content/gallery/sample

7. You can upload images directory to the wp-content/gallery/sample or upload them through the WordPress admin panel using the Upload Images button.

8. In WordPress admin panel go to Gallery>Manage Galleries and select your gallery from the list.

9. If you uploaded the images directly to the gallery folder click Scan folder for new images button to add images to the gallery.

Insert gallery into post/page

To add gallery to the post or page you can use various NextGen plugin codes.

1. Open WordPress admin panel

2. Go to Gallery > Manage Galleries

3. Check for the galery ID

4. Go to Posts and select some post

5. Switch to the HTML mode and paste plugin tags. Let’s see some examples.

Insert Gallery:

[nggallery id=x], where x is your gallery ID;

Slider:

[slideshow id=x w=width h=height], where x is your gallery id, width and height – slider dimentions in pixels;
